The mission of Episcopal Community Services of the Diocese of Northern California is to help local congregations to develop programs to serve the children, the elderly, the poor and others in need.
Dear Friends in Christ:
Continuously reminded of the economic and social hardships faced by many in our communities, I search for the ways to understand what role Episcopal Community Services, in partnership with you, can play in the life of the Diocese. Renewed by the words of Archbishop Oscar Romero, I offer them to you:
This is what we are about:
We plant seeds that one day will grow.
We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.
We lay foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces effects beyond our capabilities.
We cannot do everything,
And there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.
This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.
It may be incomplete
but it is a beginning, a step along the way,
an opportunity for God’s grace to enter and do the rest.
Thank you for your gifts, both large and small, during our recent Advent Appeal. After postage costs (Board members donated design expertise and printing supplies), Episcopal Community Services netted over $7,000 which, with other funds, will support your efforts to “plant the seeds…water seeds already planted…[and] lay foundations…” for the work you are doing in your communities.
Peace and blessings to you all.
