About the Board

The ECS Board of Directors

has been carefully selected to represent the geographic, ethnic and social ministry diversity of The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California. All Program Ministry Teams are represented on our boards, and we have lay and clergy representatives. The board of ECS provides a unique balance which allows us to assist parishes and communities in the development and promotion of social ministries.

St. John's, Roseville

Gaye Anne joined the ECS board in 2007 when she hand-carried several of our parish's unmet UTO grant requests over to the ECS board in session. As chair of the Commission on Women's Ministries, she felt that there was an obvious parallel of service that the two programs could share.

Gaye Anne has also served our diocese as Daughters of the King president, as well as DOK Province VIII vice-president.  She says that she "holds His people" (especially all the hard-working, faithful women of the Episcopal Church) "in her heart."

Communication is her profession. She works with her husband John publishing Before & After magazine, which teaches the art of graphic design for print and web media. She brings to us her skill and enthusiasm for getting a message clearly and simply made, both verbally and visually. She is willing to work with anyone who will do the hard work it takes to clearly tell their good news of Christ's work.

Diane Nichols - Member

Holy Trinity, Nevada City

Diane Nichols joined the board in early 2010. A resident of Grass Valley, she attends Trinity Church in Nevada City. Diane and her husband, artist David Mooney, moved to Northern California from San Diego three years ago, seeking (and finding) small town friendliness and changing seasons.

An attorney specializing in appellate law, Diane provides pro bono consultation to fledging organizations interested in forming nonprofit corporations as well as help in obtaining 501(c)(3) status.  Diane believes that Christ calls us to serve the least of the least, those society disregards and even shuns, and she was drawn to ECS because that is what ECS does.  Diane feels Jesus speaks to her in Matthew 25:45, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me."

In particular, she appreciates ECS's teach-a-man-to-fish model, which enables other groups and individual parishes to provide social services, via ECS assistance with program discernment, consultation, and development, rather than ECS's taking on the more cumbersome role of a direct provider of so many varied services.
